MOVE! Goal Achievement Certification
“A gold standard in goal achievement”
Orthopedic Surgeons - Olympic Team Members – World Cup Members –
Professors – Executives – College Coaches
High performance is more than about achieving goals in a particular domain: on the court, field, track…. in the office, operating room or classroom. The greatest obstacles to performance may come not just from the specific performance arena but from off the court/field/office/classroom. These obstacles may relate to “the rest of life”: to perspectives and attitudes; balancing work and living situations, including inevitable transitions; and to refining habits over weeks, seasons, and years.
MOVE! Goal achievement certification helps experts become what Dr. Marc Bubbs refers to in Peak (2019) those, who – regardless of their fields – become “expert-generalists”. They can “connect the dots” between achievement in all fields. “Learning across multiple fields gives you an information advantage, because most people focus solely on their own field,” Bubbs writes.
Getting certified in MOVE! (Motivate, Organize, Visualize, and Excel) involves learning the MOVE! goal achievement method. Used by experts from executives and coaches to doctors, professors, and athletes -- MOVE! Is based on doctoral research on excellence and goal achievement with world-class athletes. Easy to implement in person or on zoom, the method delivers concrete, objective, measurable results. It involves establishing six-week goals based on a vision, tracking progress in calendars, once-a-week meetings, and six-week reviews. Six-week goals may be revised and set again. Forms and calendars support the structure.
Many who have used the method to achieve their own goals have become inspired to become MOVE! certified coaches, applying the method in their fields. The lectures and community of coaches who represent a wide range of disciplines help experts “get out of their silos of expertise”. Experts collaborate on high-performance topics and challenges.
The certification can be earned in three to six months, with eight one-hour sessions scheduled once a week at the same time. Each session is accompanied by a graduate-level lecture related to high performance over the short- and long-term: the physiology and theory of excellence, habit, and goal achievement; theories of change and transitions; specific areas of positive psychology and emotional intelligence; and strategies for and theories of transitions, change, grit, willpower, and resilience. The certification also teaches coaches how to build their coaching practice to reflect their unique styles. Articles, podcasts, and the book MOVE!, supplement learning.
Experts who become certified learn the method by setting a six-week goal themselves and then by taking on a client to coach for six weeks. Two five-page reflection papers, one on the expert’s experience and the other on their experience coaching someone else, along with a final quiz, are required for certification.
